Abstract

This book is a collection of original contributions from specialists in the different fields related to the more advanced methods presently used or foreseen in cancer therapy. The use of large nuclear installations, such as particle accelerators and nuclear reactors, in oncology is treated in detail, giving an interesting overview of present and future potentialities. The aim of this volume is to clarify, using a scientific approach, the present state-of-the-art and to stimulate new interest among those working in the many fields related to cancer research. The methods used are sometimes tentative or are not completely established, but they all clearly demonstrate the efforts being made by the scientific community in acquiring new knowledge for solving one of the most serious problems concerning mankind.
