Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

Within the second Framework programme for research and technological development, the European Commission has implemented a research programme with the objective to provide a scientific basis for the effective implementation of a common fisheries policy. The Fisheries and Aquaculture Research programme (FAR) was adopted in 1987 for the period of 1988 to 1992. The programme operates in two ways, by providing financial support for specific research projects and by coordinating research activities at Community level. A total of 127 transnational projects involving 236 institutions have been selected for funding covering four fields of interest: fisheries management, fishing methods, aquaculture and upgrading of fishery products. This publication gives an overview of the various research projects which have received support.
