AIDS research within the biomedical and health research programme (BIOMED 1)Funded under: FP3-BIOMED 1
The combat against the spreading AIDS epidemic remains one of the major challenges that is faced worldwide, in the field of biomedical research. This publication provides an overview of the ongoing AIDS research activities that started under the fourth Medical and Health Research programme (1987-1991) and continues as part of the programme, Biomedicine and Health (1990-1994). Increased financial resources have been reserved to support concerted actions, centralised facilities, fellowships and accompanying measures for European scientists. The contributions included in this report relate to the following research areas with respect to AIDS: (i) disease control and prevention; (ii) viro-immunological research; (iii) clinical research; (iv) vaccine development.
