TELEMAN : Progress during the first yearFunded under: FP2-TELEMAN
TELEMAN is the European Atomic Energy Community's targeted research and training programme for remote handling of hazardous or disordered nuclear environments. The TELEMAN users group advises on the needs of nuclear industry users. The emphasis of the TELEMAN programme is on improved nuclear safety through the development of tele-operated systems to meet the aims of reducing the radiation exposure of human operators in nuclear installations and ensuring the safety of nuclear installations and the protection of the environment through the development of remote handling equipment. The paper discusses the requirements imposed on tele-operated machines by the nuclear industry, followed by a review of the technical progress made during the first year of the 16 multi-partner research contracts. The paper ends with some suggestions for areas requiring further research.
