The Joint European Torus (JET) is the largest single project within the European nuclear fusion research programme co-ordinated by Euratom, the European Atomic Energy Community. The principal aim of JET is to establish the scientific feasibility of nuclear fusion as a new source of energy. The report outlines the development of the JET project and presents brief overviews of fusion technologies, notably vacuum, cryogenic and magnet technology. Specialist equipment used in the project is also discussed.
