Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

AIM (Advanced Informatics in Medicine) is a pre-competitive/pre-normative R&D action designed to develop new technology and to bring benefits from these developments into medicine and health care. This document is the overall assessment report of the 18 month AIM Exploratory Action which ran from 1989 to 1990. It shows that AIM has been successful in demonstrating that improvements in health care in Europe can be realised through the application of information technology and telecommunications. The report also notes the importance of effective management action, particularly broad-based workshops, the initiation of work on European standardisation and the creation of an AIM Community.
