Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

This paper discusses the results of a workshop attended by individuals from DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) and NSF (National Science Foundation) of the United States and ESPRIT (European Strategic Programme for Research and Development in Information Technology), with the objective of exploring the potential for collaboration between the EC and US research communities. Suitable areas in information technology may be found in either fundamental or prenormative research. Common long-term research goals and obstacles to collaborative efforts were discussed. A number of near-term topics for collaborative research activities were also identified.
