Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

The FAST programme launched, within the frame of its work programme 1989-1990, a series of studies concerning the implications of the globalisation of economy and technology for the Scientific and Technological Policy of the European Community. The European economy is undergoing major changes associated with the globalisation of industrial and technological systems. This internationalisation process will have major implications not only within the European Community itself but also in terms of Europe's long term relationships and ties with other major trading blocs and countries. This in turn will have implications for the effectiveness and nature of the Community's science and technology programme. This publication concentrates on the globalisation of economy and technology. Part I examines technology cooperation, strategic alliances and their motives, Part II the internationalisation of the economy, global strategies and technology alliances, and Part III changing sectoral networks of strategic technology cooperation in the 1980s.
