Anthropocentric production systems : A strategic issue for EuropeFunded under: FP2-FAST 3, FP2-MONITOR
Anthropocentric production systems (APS) are models - both existing and conceptual - of advanced manufacturing. They provide a source of modernisation for the European manufacturing base and represent a crucial factor for future competitiveness for large areas of European industry. This report is part of a publication series presenting the results of FAST (Forecasting and Assessment in Science and Technology) research on the prospects and conditions for APS in Europe by the 21st Century. APS, and its role within industry, is defined, its economic benefits and strategic advantage discussed following which a review of its adoption in Europe and the world is given. A number of recommendations are proposed following this analysis.
