Modes of usage and diffusion of new technologies and new knowledge : The case of Spain, Germany and the Netherlands
The MUST study, on the different modes of usage and diffusion of science and technology, was commissioned under the FAST-MONITOR programme. The goal of the study was to investigate, through a comparison of EC countries, to what extent there were similarities and differences in the diffusion and mode of usage of science and technology, and draw conceptual and policy conclusions from the findings. A method of comparison of existing data and reports was developed and data were collected and compared with respect to three basic technologies: (i) computer-automated production; (ii) videotext systems; (iii) the generation of electrical energy. The results of studies conducted in the context of Spain, Germany and the Netherlands are presented here.
