Since the creation of FAST its main task has been to analyse the social and economic long term implications and consequences of scientific and technical change. The main objectives of the 1991-1992 programme are presented, and the following three research themes outlined: (i) the future of industry in Europe; (ii) science, technology and the Community cohesion in the wider continental Europe; (iii) global perspective 2010: tasks for science and technology. The second biennial report is also included and a description of activities in support of the forecasting and assessment methods and profession are described.
