Abstract

This environmental report relates to EASOE, the EC/EFTA European Arctic Stratospheric Ozone Experiment. It reports on preliminary results, future activities, institutions contributing to EASOE campaign, members of the EASOE operational core group, and the structure of the research programme. The objectives of EASOE are, firstly, to study a variety of processes believed to be important in ozone depletion (the formation of polar stratospheric clouds (PSCs) and the way that chemical processes are modified in the presence of PSCs) and secondly, to study these local processes, in a hemispheric and seasonal context, in order to observe the build-up and decay of the polar vortex and to determine the role played by chemical compounds in ozone depletion. The operational centre is in the Swedish Arctic at Kiruna.
