The report presents a four-part summary of the EC Commission's R&D programme on wind energy (WE) at the mid-1989 point. Part I constitutes the introduction and outlines the scheme which falls into three parts of assessment of resources in Europe; wind-generator experiments; development of technologies and prototypes, with concerned actions of gust measurement and modelling, wake effects, material testing, aerodynamics, design criteria, components for wind turbines, and stand-alone systems. Part II provides a list of the 57 public and private participants in the scheme and their individual contributions to the programme. Part III deals with the JOULE programme which addresses the four R&D areas of models for energy and environment, rational use of energy, energy from fossil sources and renewable energies. Part IV provides details of other publications from the main WE programme.
