Electron-cyclotron heating by the R-X mode for plasma formation
Electron cyclotron heating by the extraordinary mode for quasi-parallel propagation is investigated using the quasilinear Fokker-Planck equation. A discussion of the linear dispersion relation shows that wave damping is independent of the perpendicular velocity distribution. This simplifies the quasilinear calculation of the temperature enhancement, and for a weakly ionised plasma an analytic result is obtained.
