Abstract

This study follows a preliminary numerical investigation in which the flow suppression mechanism was first demonstrated. From nonlinear simulations a simple intuitive model of the process, based on the induced velocity shear, V', and the resistive layer width, Delta(eta), was developed. This article includes a discussion on the flow suppression mechanism with details of the numerical model used. Also discussed are the variety of nonlinear phenomena observed in different regions of the parameter space including flow amplified islands, flow induced secondary reconnection and hysteresis.
