Abstract

The CEC is undertaking a programme of pre-normative research on the post-ignition fire behaviour of upholstered furniture, in order to develop suitable test methods for a future Directive. In particular the work relates to the application of the Second Essential Requirement of this Directive. Small scale, large scale and room tests will be carried out on a wide range of different types of furniture, and the results linked by fire modelling. The final objective is the capability to predict the results of room tests from the results of small scale tests on furniture materials. The programme will also provide a series of well documented, validated databases against which future fire models can be tested.
