Non-destructive ultrasonic inspection of a section of a turbine disc
In the framework of COST 501-2 a section of a forged turbine disc NE1 was inspected non-destructively by means of ultrasonics. Immersion probes, characterised by a small beam width of 3 mm, were used. C-scans were recorded in echo-mode, making use of an analogical and a computer-aided ultrasonic system. The detection and sizing results obtained are given and discussed. The results obtained with small beam probes are compared with results described in the literature, obtained on the same forging with contact probes characterised by a wide beam.
