Calibration of an aerosol dynamics model with observations of CN in the remote marine boundary layer
An aerosol dynamics model is used to describe the formation of H(2)SO(4)- H(2)O aerosols by homogeneous nucleation and condensation. Comparison of model output with observations in the remote marine boundary layer (MBL) allows the uncertainty in the nucleation theory to be reduced. Further application of the model to the MBL suggests that it needs 3 days of undistributed homogeneous gas phase conditions to explain the lower mode of the observed MBL aerosol.
