Abstract

The article explains how the EC Commission manages the dissemination of information on its research and research-related programmes, and on the scientific and technical results of these programmes. The description of dissemination policy and methods is placed in context and the type of information provided is illustrated, with an account of the organisation of EC research and of the research topics covered. The paper is in several sections covering: (i) funding of EC research; (ii) research and the Single European Act - Framework programmes; (iii) other EC research and research-related activities; (iv) third Framework programme; (v) Maastricht Treaty; (vi) information dissemination in the second and third Framework programmes; (vii) dissemination policy in practice; (viii) CORDIS; (ix) publications; (x) RTD help-desk; (xi) future prospects under the Centralised Action; (xii) sources of information on EC research.
