Water and gas mains corrosion, degradation and protection
The book considers the basics of corrosion and electrochemistry before examining important aspects of groundwater chemistry: firstly, corrosion and scaling behaviour, then water treatment to reduce corrosivity in both public and private systems. Next, it examines the internal and external (i.e. soil) corrosion of steel pipes as well as the degradation of concrete pipes. The corrosion of pipes of other metals is also considered in this part. The final two parts consider the protection of pipes by internal and external coatings and cathodic protection, including factors such as impressed current, sacrificial anodes and stray current problems. An appendix provides a resumé of good cathodic practice.
