Abstract

This project consisted mainly of an investigation into the load bearing capacity of sections of high-strength steels StE 460, StE 690 and StE 885, with faults, under tensile load, and of sections of steel StE 37 and high-strength steels StE 460, StE 690 and StE 885, with and without faults, under bending load. Parameter studies were also conducted using computer simulations, the results of which were checked experimentally. Current restrictions in codes for dimensioning of structures made of high-strength steel were examined. Recommendations were also elaborated as to how real behaviour of structural elements can be described using appropriate parameters for materials and for structural components, with the ultimate aim of promoting the wider use of modern high-strength steels.
