Study and behaviour under static loading of circular hollow sections in triangular and quadrangular girder joints

The aim of this research is to study the behaviour, under static loading, of circular hollow sections in triangular and quadrangular girder joints. In the joints, the web elements are welded on the chords. Three types of end preparation are used for the web elements: profiling, plane cut followed by semi-flattening, and cropping. On the basis of a large series of joint tests, design strength formulae are proposed which take into account the type of end preparation of the web profiles.
