Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

This investigation was carried out to assess the comparability of measured vapour permeability values obtained from a range of laboratories throughout the countries of the European Community. A total of thirteen laboratories participated in a round-robin test in which two materials were tested. Detailed instructions covering test conditions, vapour pressure regulators and instrumentation performance were issued to each laboratory, although they were free to use the gravimetric test apparatus with which they were familiar. However, several laboratories deviated from the agreed test conditions and instrument accuracy and a dispersion between permeability results of up to +/- 21 % was indicated. The possible causes of this are discussed and recommendations are provided to minimise such effects when using conventional test procedures.
