Electrode materials for lithium batteries
The objective of the work carried out in this project is the investigation of the electrochemical properties of a number of inorganic and organic materials to be used as novel electrodes in high-energy, rechargeable lithium batteries based on liquid organic electrolytes and on polymeric solid electrolytes. The main activity is the evaluation of the performance of these electrode materials and the identification of their merits over more traditional electrodes, as well as the definition of the relevant lines of research to carry out to reach the full exploitation of these merits. Results show that the electrode materials selected are very promising for the realisation of the long-life batteries sought. Preliminary tests have shown that such batteries may offer energy densities of the order of 100 Wh/kg and cycle lives of the order of several hundred cycles.
