Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

The report describes general aspects related to contamination of groundwater and treatment of leachates from contaminated sites; in particular it investigates the fate of six selected compounds in bioreactors. Data from the literature on biological processes and physical transfer processes of pollutants to groundwater, as well as the ability of a mathematical model to simulate treatment effects, have been evaluated. Available data characterising influent and effluent samples from treatment systems for leachates from contaminated sites have also been considered. Based on the results of the study, the report contains recommendations for further research dealing with developments and investigations which may contribute to new knowledge relating to pollution abatement.
