Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

Hydrocarbons still represent the most versatile and widely used form of energy. According to forecasts, by the year 2010, 60 % of the total energy used in the member states will come from hydrocarbons alone. This publication contains extended abstracts of the final reports from the third Non Nuclear Energy R&D programme. These are arranged in four chapters corresponding to the four main areas of research into hydrocarbons: (i) the improvement of the knowledge and means of exploration of oil fields; (ii) the utilisation of natural gas; (iii) the utilisation of the heavy oil fractions; (iv) fuel engine adaptation.
