Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

The booklet presents the synopses of the 21 projects funded in the TIDE (Technology Initiative for Disabled and Elderly people) pilot action. A real understanding of user needs was required in all project proposals, as well as an explicit statement of intent in order to evaluate project products in collaboration with potential customers. Technical areas selected for pilot action are: (i) control technology - environmental control systems, powered wheelchairs, robotic aids; (ii) communication technologies - terminals (accessibility, personal communications), and signal processing (alarms systems, improved hearing aids); (iii) integrated systems technologies (smart house concepts, navigation systems); (iv) manufacturing techniques (application of CAD/CAM to the manufacture of orthoses and prostheses).
