Information service on chemical substances and products
The report describes experiences with a public telephone information service on chemical substances and products at the Danish National Institute of Occupational Health (DNIOH) with a view to establishing a similar telephone information service in other member countries of the European Community. The report presents an analysis of calls, users, cases and topics, and describes the organisation of the service, and the back-up documentation. As a result of the introduction of this service, there has been a considerable decrease in the number of written enquiries; 71 % of the telephone enquiries are answered directly during the call, thus speeding up the response time. It is suggested that monitoring the queries raised can produce useful feedback concerning those products, substances or processes which give rise to problems in the workplace.
