The health of ankylosing spondylitis patients from orthopaedic hospitals which treated large numbers of patients with 224-radium has been monitored. This review of experience after internal radiation of humans concentrates on: (i) incidence of bone tumours and haemopoietic and lymphatic disorders; (ii) histological types and sites of occurrence of bone tumours; (iii) the latency period of radiation-induced bone tumours and myeloproliferative diseases.
