Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

The influence of environmental changes on terrestrial processes influencing the carbon cycle and the consequent feedback to the atmosphere due to changes in ecosystem functioning are far from being well understood. This understanding is a prerequisite for the quantitative prediction of regional and global changes. For this reason, the Commission of the European Communities decided to support research activities on terrestrial aspects of the carbon cycle. The below-ground processes are among those which are the least understood. This publication contains the proceedings of a workshop which aimed to provide an opportunity to assess the knowledge in that field and to take steps towards developing a comprehensive research programme.
