The Institute for Remote Sensing Applications (IRSA) was set up to address the requirement for timely, accurate information on the state of the global environment. This report covers its objectives and activities in 1991 in the following areas: (i) environmental mapping and modelling; (ii) agriculture information systems; (iii) monitoring of tropical vegetation; (iv) marine environment; (v) advanced techniques. For each area the objectives and work done are presented, together with resources and the publications produced in 1991.
