This report describes recent experimental work by the JRC concerning parameter identification in some typical Italian apartment buildings, while these were occupied. Measurement methods and results are reported. The main objectives were to develop and check the feasibility of energy parameters identification methods based on measurements of thermal behaviour of residential buildings with centralised heating plant. Such methods would be useful for the following: (i) prediction of consumption; (ii) evaluation and certification of energy-significant parameters; (iii) energy audit; (iv) energy retrofit evaluation. The measured data consist of hourly plots of indoor and outdoor temperatures, energy consumption, and solar energy. To analyse these data various identification methods were used, from the simplest ones such as useful energy method, building energy signature methods and lumped parameter models with Kalman filtering. The identified parameters were then compared with the theoretical ones predicted by standard calculation methods.
