New intelligent tools for improving the energy performance of a building stockFunded under: FP1-ENNONUC 3C
The development of an energy and informatics industry in the building sector has been underway for many years. Several control and regulation systems for HVAC plant have attained levels of sophistication that would have been impossible without the adoption of informatics tools. This paper looks at the perspective of adaptive intelligent tools in the building sector and explains the need for the development of new design and retrofit tools in this area. The development of BEAMES, a prototype expert system for building energy auditing, by the JRC is reported and its main performance features are described. The concept of neural networking is also explained, using its application in BEAMES as an example.
