Evaluation of European research conferences
In this report an independent panel of external experts evaluate the European Research Conferences of 1990 and 1991 which were initiated jointly by the European Science Foundation and the Commission of the European Communities. The EC funding was case by case and the new programme on human capital and mobility envisages continued support for this type of activity. The Panel were appointed in 1992 by the Commission and they submitted their report in July 1992. This contains an analysis of the actions taken in 1990 and 1991 with a view to determining the quality of the science and the people involved in the conferences, the effectiveness of the organisation and management, how the conferences fit with other EC objectives and how they compare with the more established, but similar, conferences such as Gordon Conferences (USA) or the Ciba Foundation Conferences (UK).
