Industrial fuel gas (IFG) from coal : The fate of trace elements and hydrocarbons
Research has been carried out to assess the environmental acceptability of the British Coal Corporation industrial fuel gas (IFG) coal gasification process regarding discharges of key trace elements (for example lead, chromium, vanadium and nickel) and trace hydrocarbon compounds (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and dioxins). Trace element assessments have involved sampling and analysis of both the input and output streams of the process in order to determine their mobility. The main focus on trace hydrocarbons has concerned their final discharge to atmosphere on combustion of fuel gas.
