During the last ten years much research effort has been devoted to the codification of the design of LMFBR components. Work in this area has resulted in: (i) the RCC-MR (règles de conception et de construction des matériels mécaniques des îlots nucléaires, réacteur à neutrons rapides); (ii) the code case N-47 (ASME); (iii) the ETSDG guide (MONJU guide). It appears, however, that there are substantial differences between these rules, the implications of which for the design of components are not always clear. First the basic RCC-MR design rules, and their purpose, are presented. In the second part a qualitative comparison is made between RCC-MR, code case N-47 and the ETSDG guide, based on the negligible creep test, ratcheting, creep fatigue, buckling and piping rules. Improvements now being made to the RCC-MR rules are also outlined.
