Traceability of chemical measurements
Possible schemes of traceability are being tested and the insights gained are reported. The roles of atomic weights or molar masses and current knowledge of the Avogadro constant are reviewed, present efforts to improve them are described and their possible role in future traceability systems is discussed. The report outlines attempts to achieve the closest possible realisation of the mole, and sets out criteria for primary methods of analysis. The above theory can be used to provide traceability of measurements to laboratories in the field, thus helping them in achieving comparability. The problem of cross-border comparability for measurements of amount of substances must be considered worldwide.
