Abstract

This report presents a new fast beam deposition code, SINBAD, for simulating the injection of hydrogen isotopes into tokamak plasmas. The code is based on the observation that the ion source of an injector can be approximated by a point source. For current injector arrangements this approximation is fairly accurate since the distance from the source to the plasma is large compared to the source dimensions. A detailed description of the structure of the code and its subroutines is given. The results of the code are compared with the results from TRANSP and the deposition code PENCIL for some neutral beam heated JET discharges.
