The divergence of Braginskii's ion gyroviscous tensor is expressed in invariant form for localised modes. The only localisation assumption is that the wavelength of the modes across the magnetic surfaces is shorter than the equilibrium scale length. Both singular and ballooning modes fall within the scope of the description. General toroidal equilibria are considered as well as applications to simplified equilibrium models. Applying the invariant form to expressions appropriate to ballooning and singular modes recovers several previous results.
