The principal objective of worldwide research into high field tokamak machines has been to find a shortcut to explore the physics of regimes with a high n(tau)T parameter in limited size experiments. In this report, the most recent developments in the area of high field tokamak machines are presented. The solutions adopted for the electromechanical structure of the machines, which is typically the most crucial component of the design, are described.
