Brazing defects in certain brazed components of Tore Supra were simulated mathematically. The simulated results were compared to non-destructive measurements of component faults obtained from infrared thermography of the surface of components heated by applying power to them. Two different methods of power application were compared with the experimental measurements: Method A: temperature change in the tile is plotted over time as a front of hot or cold water is fed into the cooling structure; Method B: tile surface temperature is measured when a heat flux is deposited on the tiles by means of an electron gun, the heat being withdrawn via the cooling water circuit.
