Photovoltaic electrification of a cycling museum and of mountain shelters for shepherds - Hautes-Alpes, France
The Ecrins National Park has implemented a demonstration photovoltaic programme for 30 mountain refuges (sub-project PNE) and the electricity supply at the cycling museum at the Col de l'Izoard (sub-project PNRQ). For installations on isolated sites in National Parks, it is difficult to consider economic profitability relative to other systems. The only alternative systems available are gas lighting, candles or bringing in batteries such as those used for electric fences. The aims of the programme were: (i) for the PNE project, to test the stability and performance of amorphous silicon modules compared to polycrystalline silicon; (ii) for the PNRQ project, to demonstrate the architectural possibilities for integration of PU modules and to test the performance of a volumetric pump under high pressure (10 bar) with a sun-following control system. In 1989 a new programme of 40 generators was initiated.
