Fouling of surfaces and gas flow paths in coal fired boilers reduces plant availability and increases operating costs. The aim of this programme was to develop a fouling prediction model, based on readily measurable operating and design parameters, and a measuring system for development/validation of the model. In this report the development and application phases of the fouling model are described and the design and operation characteristics of the deposition probe are presented. Model predictions are compared with experimental probe data and conclusions and future work relating to the project are also discussed.
