Abstract

MDF is a demonstration mixed oxide (MOX) fuel fabrication plant located on the AEA Technology site, Windscale, UK, that will start operation during 1993. The plant will be operated by AEA Technology and is being built by BNFL. At full capacity, MDF will produce 20 LWR fuel assemblies per year. The MDF plant operation will be based upon a sophisticated computer based material follow-up system. A large subset of the operating data stored on this system will be transmitted to Euratom. This paper explains how a large set of computer based operating data will be used and presents the advantages that can be expected, from the point of view of both the Safeguards inspectorate and the operator, especially in the case of MDF.
