As a condition of the checking and quality control of the THERMIE programme on building projects on the use of solar thermal energy, a method was developed for the remote reading of the building main heat-energy parameters, useful to the control and the assessment of energy performance. This paper concerns the development of a tele-monitoring system for the remote reading of the thermal behaviour of a building system. The tele-monitoring system consists of a data acquisition system and a project-PC with data bank, connected to the public telephone network by a modem, both programmed for the acquisition, processing and transmission of the data. Successful data transfers have been made on this system, including remote interrogation from several international locations, to demonstrate the feasibility of the approach.
