High resolution satellite imagery for rice production assessment over irrigated perimeters in Sahelian countries : A case study in Mali
The study presented here was carried out on an irrigated perimeter of about 6000 ha in Mali for which official 1984 yield figures and yield plot data were available, together with seven Landsat MSS and TM images. For surface estimates best results were obtained with a two-step supervised maximum likelihood classification. No significant correlation was found between yields and vegetation indices on a per field or per field-block basis. Yields and NDVI distributions were then adjusted to map the spatial variation of yields.
