Adjoint optimization scheme for lower hybrid current rampup and profile control in tokamaks
The purpose of this research was to study the effect of the electric field profiles on the lower hybrid current drive efficiency during transient phases such as rampup. As a complement to the full ray-tracing/Fokker Planck studies, and for the purpose of optimisation studies, a simplified 1D model based on the adjoint Karney-Fisch numerical results has been developed. This report includes a description of the model and illustrates the method using numerical results obtained with the Tore Supra and NET/ITER parameters. An interpretation of the numerical results is also presented, together with a derivation of a simple and general scaling law for flux consumption.
