Transport and confinement experiments were performed on energy, impurity and helium ash transport. In addition, analysis of the PTE discharges produced evidence on the relative particle transport coefficients for deuterium and tritium. The JET performance limits were extended by experiments with high power additional heating at 7 MA in limiter plasmas, by operation at 5 MA in the double null X-point (DNX) configuration and by the production of long pulse (less than or equal to 18 sec) steady state ELMy H-modes. A series of experiments to study the effects of toroidal field ripple was successfully carried out. Divertor experiments were performed which allowed the study of a radiative divertor. Further analysis of the alpha-particle effects observed in the PTE discharges is also presented.
