Abstract

This paper describes the background, design and implementation of the new TX control system for the TEXTOR tokamak at Jülich. With the previous system, a major problem was the integration of all existing CAMAC peripherals into the new standard Ethernet-based communication structure. Special consideration is given to the steps realising a smooth upgrade procedure which avoids unnecessary interferences with the TEXTOR operation. The aspect of the operator confronted with new devices in his customary console which require different handling is also covered.
