Abstract

Two civil tritium facilities - the European Tritium Handling Experimental Laboratory (ETHEL) and the Tritium Laboratory Karlsruhe (TLK) - are being commissioned for active operation of tritium test facilities within the European programme on fusion technology. Both organisations have elaborated a common tritium accountancy system derived from operational requirements and technical limitations, taking into account particular properties of tritium such as volatility and the tendency to dissolve in structural material. The essentials of this system are presented in this paper.
